Whiplash

What Is Whiplash?

Whiplash is a neck injury that happens when the head is suddenly and forcefully thrown backwards and then forwards, like the cracking of a whip. It’s most commonly caused by car accidents, but can also happen during sports, falls, or any sudden impact that jolts the neck.

This rapid motion can strain or tear the muscles, ligaments, joints, and discs in the neck and upper back. While some symptoms appear immediately, others can take hours—or even days—to develop.

Common Symptoms Of Whiplash Include:

  • Neck pain and stiffness

  • Headaches (often starting at the base of the skull)

  • Shoulder or upper back pain

  • Dizziness or blurred vision

  • Difficulty concentrating or sleeping

  • Tingling or weakness in the arms or hands

For some, whiplash symptoms resolve in a few weeks. But for others, pain and dysfunction can linger—this is called whiplash-associated disorder (WAD) and may involve persistent pain, limited movement, and nervous system sensitivity.

At Reform Clinic, we take a modern, evidence-based approach to whiplash recovery. Rather than simply resting, current research supports early, guided movement and rehabilitation. Our care plans are tailored to your stage of healing and may include manual therapy, mobility and strength work, postural training, nerve desensitisation, and education to reduce fear and tension.

We don’t just treat your neck—we treat you as a whole person, helping you rebuild confidence, restoring normal movement, and preventing long-term issues.
